User Research

How Does It Work?

Students work in teams to plan and implement various ethnographic research techniques to help you gain a clearer picture of who your target audience(s) are, what they need, what they want, and how they behave.

Project Duration: Full semester (15 weeks)
Availability: Fall and Spring
Ideal For: Organizations in need of extensive research into their target audience(s), especially prior to the launch of a new product or service.
What You Get: Final report with research insights and recommendations, plus raw data, research plans, and other documentation.

Project Process

Observations & Interviews

Conduct in-person observations at local sites and interviews with representative potential users of the future site/app.

Diary Studies

Plan and implement a week-long study where participants contribute photos or video snippets, answer questions, and describe their day-to-day activities.

Co-Design Sessions

Hold In-person or online workshops with participants and/or stakeholders to expand on research questions or map out potential design directions.
