Project Summary

The Pratt Institute Libraries have been constantly improving its website user experience based on feedback from students and faculties. In Summer 2019, the website made two major design changes on its homepage. The client wanted to understand how the Pratt Students interacted with the two new features that had been added to the website, the global search bar to look up books, articles, and guides as well as the ‘Ask a Librarian’ feature that allows users to get assistance from librarians in real-time. Since our research goals focus on understanding user behaviors, we used eye-tracking during the usability test. Eye-tracking provides us with rich behavior data on a user’s interaction with the page, as detailed as to where the user’s gaze lands on the page. Besides eye-tracking, the rest of the study is no different from a usability study.
